11-18-09: Vanderbilt: Adoption benefits offered

Every year, millions of people choose to pursue adoption for a variety of reasons. National Adoption Day is celebrated every year on the Saturday before Thanksgiving.

Regular, full-time employees who have been employed with Vanderbilt for at least one year are eligible for up to $3,000 in adoption assistance for adopting a child under 18 years of age.

The $3,000 can be applied to qualified expenses that could include:
• Adoption agency and placement fees
• Immunizations for the children
• Reasonable travel and lodging associated with the adoption
• Attorney fees/court costs
• Cost of temporary foster care during the adoption process

Adopting a child also means a change in your family status, so be sure to update your insurance policies and tax status accordingly.
